Tell us briefly about your background & how you got started in your medium.
I’ve always loved painting and drawing since childhood. My granny tried convincing me to study Art in college, but I chose a different path. I was always afraid I wouldn’t “make it” as an artist. Now, knowing that I was the only one holding myself back, I have been embracing and honing my talents and skills within the past two years and experimenting in many types of mediums. I find that I most enjoy painting in oils and watercolor.
What do you like most about your medium?
I dabble in all sorts of mediums, but I enjoy watercolor the most out of any other because it allows me to be more accurate with the details and what I’m trying to convey. Painting in this medium gives a more realistic look and I want the viewer to feel like they are right there.
Who or what have been your artistic inspirations?
My artistic inspirations come from nature and my travels abroad, especially the beaches of North Carolina. They evoke memories within and bring about a sense of zen.
Do you have a favorite piece in your portfolio?
My favorite piece in my portfolio is the crab I painted in watercolor. I snapped a photo of this guy marching along the beach proudly and it was willing to put up a fight to get where it was going in life. I can relate! So therefore, I made it my mascot. Funny how it is also my zodiac sign!
What would be your advice to artists just starting out in your medium?
The masters were once amateurs too. Practice, have patience, and ask other artists for their feedback. Be willing to learn but don’t forget to add your own personality to your artwork. You are one of a kind, and that should be reflected in your artwork too.
